It's difficult for me to imagine an independent Guam because so many other people have become dependent on others. It's been a year since Guam has gained it's independence and I feel that this is too big a change for our island. Maybe-
In the span of five years people may have overcome their fear of such a drastic change and have grown to accept the idea that an independent Guam, that's free to decide it's own destiny without having an overshadowing force to say otherwise, is such a positive improvement from what our political status formerly was. Guam's overall statistics have improved in such a short time and although the first year was difficult and full of sacrifices-
things have started to settle down, after another five years. It's been ten years since we've gained our independence and the people of Guam have never looked healthier. Our life expectancy rate has gone up because people are eating better foods and getting less stressed about financial issues because the cost of living has decreased by 40%. A cultural revolution that begun a few years ago has become an even greater force this year. I've seen more and more signs in Chamorro and Tagalog. Families and people of different ethnicities are starting to accept the changes more and more and are arguing about their differences less and less. Empanadas are now sold everywhere!
Recently Guahan has made great strides to reach out and improve our diplomacy with our neighboring countries. Less and less people have been leaving the island and decided to either stay on our ever-improving country or to visit other countries like Japan, China, or Bali to vacation. Things are not as fast paced as they used to be 20 years ago, but that's alright with me. The children of our future are learning to more globally important things and Guahan remains to be known for its excellent hospitality.
Since Guam has allied with other countries like Asia and Australia and Europe many of the people in Guam are able to travel there for vacation. Guam has climbed up the global latter and has established itself to be a great nation. Guahan is currently trying to develop its own currency to take advantage of our booming economy.
Guam's economy continues to BOOM! More and more of our allies want to plant branches for their major companies on the island. Cultural roots has become a global phenomenon and more and more countries are following Guahans example to be a more culturally savvy nation.
I am now seventy years old with generations of Guahan babies and their babies and their babies, wrapped in and embracing the culture and the island.
Biba Independent Guahan 2050.
